Zhixin Wan
Biography
WAN Zhixin is a journalist. She believes in the power of writing to connect people across cultures. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she heard from the essential workers who kept her hometown afloat; when life in Beijing began to return to normal, she wrote about the challenges that still faced blind massage therapists. Her work has been published on Bloomberg News, Xinhua, and Pekingology. Zhixin aspires to become a non-fiction writer. She wants to tell the stories of China through recording the voices of ordinary people. She serves as a volunteer at Grameen Bank China and at Mulan, a Beijing-based NGO focusing on empowering female migrant workers. Her social work experience has helped Zhixin gain a more nuanced understanding of the people she wants to write about as a journalist, and it has also shaped her as an individual. Zhixin is pursuing a Masters' degree in International Journalism at Tsinghua University, and she hopes to do an MPhil degree in Social Anthropology at Oxford.
