Kimathi Muiruri
Biography
Kimathi Muiruri is an environmental law and policy researcher and a historian of Africa. Born and raised in Pickering, Ontario, he graduated in May 2021 with highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) with degrees in history and environmental studies. At UNC, he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar, a Phi Beta Kappa inductee, an amateur poet, and a four-year player for the UNC Men’s Rugby Club. He is currently a Program Associate at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, a joint center of Columbia Law School and The Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he supports research and direct engagement work to enhance rights-respecting and environmentally sustainable land-based investment in the Global South. Kimathi hopes to pursue an MPhil in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford.
